Main Streets
Based on community feedback, observations, and research on what has worked in other parts of North America, we developed a set of principles to foster vibrant community Main Streets in Nova Scotia.
These principles are focused on enabling local action, with residents driving positive change.
We met with community members and heard hundreds of ideas to make Main Streets stronger. While each community spoke about its unique identity and context, there were common threads that emerged. Some involve major infrastructure investments, others can be explored through pilot projects and community organization more quickly. Each has key roles for residents, community groups, and businesses, as well as local and provincial government bodies.
