Activity 17:
RCMP or Local Police Visit (optional)
Purpose
To visit the local RCMP or local police and familiarize the participants with its location
To familiarize participants with local police officers while learning about how to deal with danger in their neighbourhood or on their travel routes
Location
Requires travelling to the nearest RCMP or Local Police station
Things to Observe
Participants are asking questions.
Participants are respectfully listening.
Instructional Considerations
If the officer does not address the questions that should be discussed then you should ask questions to guide the presenter to discuss the required information.
Guidelines
If an officer is available to speak to the participants, ask them to discuss:
How participants can safely move away from strangers who approach them
How to address bullying in the community
How a community constable helps out pedestrians if they are in danger
How a community constable helps prevent danger from happening
Remind the participants to act respectfully and to use proper listening skills.
Remind the participants to raise their hands if they have a question or comment.
Debrief
Allow participants the opportunity to ask the officer/ constable questions and to thank them for their time.
Discuss with the crew what they can do if approached by someone who does not appear to be safe.
